Montessori Centre Academy

Our mission is to create a child centered learning environment that not only educates but teaches the child self respect, responsibility and ethical treatment of one another.

Past Goals

Past goals were to create a wrap around child care program where children, by age groupings, would have the opportunity to have constructive play, develop physical education skills, have after school study hour, and have equipment, manipulatives, toys, games and crafts available during after school times.

The school has maintained hands-on contact with animals so that the children learn to respect and take care of creatures.  Children participate in community service through different planned experiences---food drives, serving the needy, serving senior citizens in nursing homes, working with the local veterinarian, scheduling time to work at the library.  At least one project a year is planned.

Present Goals

1. To enhance and develop all children's musical appreciation.  The school has an integrated music program based on Kodaly, Orff and Eurhythmics in a continued developmental sequence through preschool and 6th grade.

2. To assess and develop an art curriculum that balances art history, hands on crafts and basic drawing ability.

3. Each year the teachers assess what their needs are within the classroom structure and take a particular theme and work through that to broaden the base of the curriculum learning.  For example, this year the theme was "Extensions of the Sensorial Apparatus and how it relates to the understanding of math exploration in the elementary."

4. To assess what new materials are available that would add to the Montessori curriculum and traditional learnings and to purchase them to complement each classroom.

Ongoing Goals

Future goals are based on assessment of present goals obtained at the end of each school year.

• Goals for the physical structure are ongoing and assessed for maintenance (classroom refurbishing, painting, rugs, lighting, shelving and ordering of new equipment).
